  31. I paid $7500 for a used BVW-35. Of course, it only had 80 hours on the heads
  32. and was in excellent shape overall (hardly ever taken outdoors). $5750 is a
  33. good price for one if it hasn't been beaten to death. At that low price,
  34. this *is* a possibility. I strongly advise you to test it for a day or two,
  35. without the seller looking over your shoulder, before you buy it.

  37. In terms of dumping your stuff to Beta, no one can argue with true BVW
  38. quality, which is exactly what you're getting even out of a little portable
  39. like the 35. It's perfect if all you're doing is animation layoff and
  40. possibly nonlinear editing. If you plan to do linear editing though, forget
  41. using the 35 -- it's just not meant for it, even as a source. And it is
  42. absolutely not an edit recording deck. It WILL do audio inserts (not always
  43. cleanly), but not video inserts. It is strictly assemble only when it comes
  44. to video. And it does not match time code automatically. You must dial it in
  45. manually to take up where your last bit of recorded signal left off. A minor
  46. inconvenience for me, and I never have a SMPTE jump of more than 1 or 2
  47. frames -- but there will always be a jump. Again, no big deal when all you
  48. do is lay off animations.

  50. Also be aware you will need a breakout box or cable to run the PVR's
  51. component signal in through the 35's camera connector. About $90 to $120.
  52. And another slightly cheaper one to get a component signal out for nonlinear
  53. editing. Yes, you can just hook the PVR up through composite, but the
  54. recorded signal will not be as good. The 35's composite encoders were meant
  55. for monitoring in the field, not broadcast production.
